Destin is located in the Florida Panhandle and is known as the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village." Destin is named after Captain Leonard Destin, a fisherman from New London, Connecticut, who began sailing and fishing the gulf in 1835 and settled in Destin around 1850. The city accommodates the most colossal and lavishly fitted fishing fleet in the State of Florida. Besides fishing, other leisure activities include tennis, golf and water sports such as snorkeling and diving. The 100-fathom curve of the Atlantic Ocean draws closer to Destin than any other position in Florida, allowing the most rapid deep-water access on the Gulf.
